Sidhant wins all-India school chess title

Sidhant Mohapatra of Bhadrak emerged champion in the 3rd Bhola Infratech All-India Fide Rating School Chess Tournament, securing nine points from 10 rounds at Loyola School here today. Top seed Sidhant posted eight wins and drew the other two games to take home the top prize of Rs 20,000.

Fide Master Rakesh Kumar Jena finished runner-up with eight points. He received Rs 12,000. Altogether 216 players from different places of the country participated in the tournament, which was organised jointly by Ama Parivar and S R Chess Centre, under the aegis of Khordha District Chess Association and All Odisha Chess Association.

Khurda Collector Roopa Mishra handed over the trophy and cash prizes in the closing function. Hockey Olympian Dilip Tirkey was present on the occasion as guest.

FINAL STANDINGS (Top 15): 1. Sidhant Mohapatra (9); 2-7: Rakesh Kumar Jena, Baivab Mishra, AR Harikrishnan, Ashirwad Swain, Susobhit Das, Pranab Kumar Patra (8 each); 8-14: Smaraki Mohanty, Sradhanjali Jena, Rudraksh Parida, Nishit Mohanty, Subhasis Barik, Sanjkeet Jena, Sovna Sonali Jena (each 7.5); 15. Saina Salonika (7).
